Goal and mechanics

In Vortelli's Pizza Delivery you drive a delivery car through a city. Orders come in, and you race to bring each hot pizza to its destination. Between deliveries you can upgrade your car. That is the whole structure: take an order, drive, deliver, improve the car. It is made by Devortel and listed on Poki as a driving game, with cars, pizza and simulation among its categories.

On a keyboard, WASD or the arrow keys move the car. Shift makes it drift, which helps you take tight corners without losing too much speed. The Spacebar delivers the pizza once you reach the right place. Poki's description is clear that the driving style is up to you: you can take careful routes or fast, sliding ones. If you prefer arrow keys, they do the same job as WASD, so you can use whichever hand position feels natural. Poki lists the game for phones and tablets too, but the controls on its page are described for the keyboard.

Because the city is open, much of the game is about knowing where you are going, reading the road and choosing a line through the streets. Drifting is a tool rather than a requirement, and upgrades make later deliveries easier to manage. The result is a relaxed kind of racing: there is a goal for each run, but no fixed track and no single right way to reach it. Some players will drive fast and slide through every corner; others will take the steady route and still get the pizza there.

Tips worth trying

  • Practise drifting with Shift on a few wide corners before relying on it in narrow streets and through gates.

  • Slow down near the destination and play it safe on the last stretch of road. Arriving at speed and overshooting costs more time than a controlled stop. A short brake before the stop saves you from turning back.

  • Remember that Spacebar delivers. Reaching the spot with a hot pizza is not enough; you still need to press it.

  • Put early upgrades into the car before attempting longer or faster routes. A better car makes the city easier to cross.

A good fit for

Players who like driving games without strict tracks, and anyone who enjoys a simple loop of orders and upgrades. Keyboard players will find the controls most direct. It is also a good fit for players who like the idea of a racing game but not the pressure of a fixed track and rivals.

Drawbacks, honestly

— Poki shows ads around its games, including this one.

— The controls listed on Poki are for the keyboard; touch controls are not described on the game page.
